Harvesting Vermicast From the Worm Bin

We have been feeding and caring for our compost worms for the past few months. Last week we harvested the rich vermicast that the worms produced. Vermicast is the organic matter that the worms produce after eating food scraps. It makes excellent fertilizer!

We emptied the worm bin contents on a tarp, then picked through it to find all of the worms. After we separated out the worms, we added the vermicast to one of our garden beds. We mixed it into the soil and it will help to fertilize the soil. We can't wait to see how well the plants that go into that bed will grow!
