Halloween Costumes
Today we had many children who dressed up in fabulous costumes! It was a hard decision, but Mia (Rockstar) and Kalewa (Zombie Football Player) were voted to represent our class at the costume contest. Good luck to them!

Halloween
Halloween is coming soon! This is a day of fun and excitement for the children. Kapunahala will be having a costume contest and one representative from each class will be chosen. Please refer to the flyer for guidelines for the costume contest.
Students who wish not to enter the contest may also dress up in a costume if they wish, but safety and dress code guidelines must also be followed. It is advisable to send change of clothes because the children may not want to wear their costume all day.
Some parents have been asking about sending treats for the children. It is fine with me. FYI: Our class count is 24 students.

Student Led Conferences- Oct. 28- Nov. 8
We had our first four conferences on Monday. The students did an excellent job sharing with their parents their first quarter work samples and goals for second quarter. They were poised and articulate and their parents were beaming with pride!
The students and I are looking forward to the rest of the conferences this week and next week. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Kapunahala Ohana Garden
Our garden has a name! The children voted and "Kapunahala Ohana Garden" has been chosen.
The children have been working hard planting, weeding, hoeing, and watering. So far we have planted sunflower seeds, beans, herbs, Manoa lettuce, sweet potatoes and more! We can't wait until our first harvest!
Here are some pics of us working hard!

Sunflower Planting
A couple of weeks ago, the children planted sunflower seeds in milk cartons. After about a week, the seeds sprouted and were ready to transplant in the garden.
Enjoy the pics of the children transplanting their sunflowers.
Animal Adaptations Projects
The students did a wonderful job on their projects. The projects were very creative and excellent visual aids for their presentations. The students also worked hard on their research and were able to type them on the computer. The students all did a great job on their presentations and eagerly shared their knowledge of their chosen animal!
Thank you for your assistance with these projects.

Fall Break Homework
Fall Break is quickly approaching. It's been a very productive quarter and I'd like to thank you for your support. My goal for the Fall Break is for the children to have fun and recharge!
To help them get a headstart on 2nd quarter, there are 2 things I'd like them to work on:
1. Read AR books and/or do KidBiz articles on Mon., Tue., Wed., Thurs., Mon. (Oct. 7, 8, 9, 10, 14). Please keep a log of what you are reading.
2. Study the 6 times table. A test will be given when they return to school.
Have a wonderful Fall Bread and enjoy the special time with your family! Take care!

Fall Break Gardening
Attention all of you gardeners! We need your help during the Fall Break!
Mrs. Hood will be at the garden on Monday, Wed., and Friday (Oct. 7, 9, 11) from 8:00-9:00am. We would like to have students accompanied by a parent come and assist us in the garden. Light tasks such as weeding, watering, and other maintenance duties will be done.
Please wear shoes and a hat.and bring a water bottle.
Hope to see you there!
