Our First Month in 3rd Grade

Wow! It's hard to believe that we've been in school for almost a month! The children have been working hard and learning the routines. We're on our way to a great third grade year!

Here are some comments from the students:

Noah M.: I like my first month of school because I get to see my friends and I get to learn stuff I don't know. Something I learned is reading numbers in thousands.

Karley: On the first month it was really exciting because we got to see all of our friends that we didn't see for a long time. I made some new friends, too.

Kalewa: It was fun because my friend showed me around and I got friends at recess, lunch, and breakfast. I like Kapunahala School because it is interesting.

Joshua: How my first 3rd grade experience is how I met my friends and new classmates. I met new friends in class and outdoors at recess. I also like to play with my old friends.

Noah F.:On the first day of school I got to see new classmates and meet my new teacher. The cool thing is that we get to play with our new friends at recess and walk them around to show them all the places.

Haylie: Mrs. Tamashiro is the best! Math is my favorite subject. We do lots of times tables.Mostly everybody loves math!

Kaden: Starting from the first day of school, I was nervous to go to third grade. But when days passed, I got used to it. We learned the 2 times table, animal adaptations, and now we're going on to 5 times table.

Daniel: What I like about third grade is that I passed my 2 times test. I like that my friends help me with my work. I like that people tell me nice things. I like that math is fun.

Katelyn: My first month of third grade was because we did jumping and galloping on the first PE day.

Alexus: My first month in third grade was really fun. It was fun because we could draw a person, learn multiplication facts (2 x and 5x). We also learned really new things that we didn't learn in second grade like animal adaptations and drawing a person is really simple because you are drawing shapes and putting clothes on it. This month is really fun!

Jake: In the first month of school, I had a lot of memories of last year but I got used to this year.

Skylar: My first month of school I got to learn a lot of new multiplication facts and I got to meet new friends.

Nanea: C.: My first month in third grade was cool. We did lots of fun things. I got to see all my friends again. My favorite thing to do is Science, but this month is almost over.

Elijah: My teacher is Mrs. Tamashiro. She always helps and teaches us everything. My new friends always play with me. My teacher the best teacher in the world. She always reminds us to take off our nametags and rip out our homework. And she is the nicest person and takes us to PE. And me and my friends always play with me.

Edwin: I had fun with Joshua and Noah M playing kickball. I passed a lot of KidBiz because I read the article more than once.

Cody: I like the classes I've been in. My teacher is Mrs. Tamashiro. She is super nice.

Mia:  My first day of school was so fun because I saw my best friend Jaden. That was exciting. I also love my first week of school because I met my new friends and classmates.

Marcus: My first month of school was the best day of my life! When I stepped in the room my heart beat one mile a minute. My new teascher Mrs. Tamshiro is the funnest eacher in the world by teaching us multiplication , division and more. It was great to meet my new and old friends this year.

Chevonn: My first day of school was good because I got to see people that was in my class. I made friends. My friends are Katelyn, Karley, Kaden, and Alexus.

Jordis: The first day I was a little bit scared to come to school and then I started to like school. Every recess I like to go and play and I love school now and I like to play with my friends.

Tylor: My first month in third grade I got to meet the new PE teacher. His name is Mr. Reyes. I was a little scared in third grade because I was worrying about me in class.

Rotation Classes on Monday

We will be having our first rotation on Monday, August 19. For those of you who are new to Kapunahala, rotation classes are held about once a month. The children will rotate between the following classes: library, computer, PE, Guidance, art, and Performing arts (beginning in the 2nd Quarter). While the students are attending these classes, the teachers have time to collaborate with their grade level teachers and take care of tasks such as assessment review and planning.

Because next week is a rotation week, please make sure that your child is prepared for PE on Monday. They must have shoes in order to participate in the PE activities. Also, students should wear shorts and a t-shirt. Don't forget to bring a water bottle!

We will resume our regular Tuesday PE classes the following week.

Also, the students will not be able to borrow library books during library class during rotation week. If they need a new book, they can go to the library after school.

Have your child share with you what they did in rotation classes. They all love to go to these resource classes and learn new things!

First PE Class

We had our first PE class with Mr. Reyes on Tuesday. The children learned Mr. Reyes' rules and expectations, then they worked on their locomotor skills. They all had a lot of fun and were able to practice locomotor skills like running, hopping, galloping, and skipping.
Our regular PE day is on Tuesdays. Please remember to wear shoes, shorts, and a shirt. They should also bring water.

Welcome to third grade!

Welcome to Third Grade! We had a great first week of school. The students have quickly learned our procedures and expectations.

Through our blog, we will be sharing with you photographs, reminders, copies of forms and notices, and writing pieces about our third grade experiences. Please write comments back to us which will keep us motivated to continue working on our blog.

Here are a few reminders:

Homework: Homework is assigned Monday to Thursday. The students will usually have:
  • Reading Log- Students must read Accelerated Reader books at his/her reading level. Students should also be doing one or two KidBiz articles at home and pass with a score of 75% or better. Two passing articles a week are required. Students have time in school to do KidBiz articles, but need to do at least one at home each week in order to meet their goal. One KidBiz article a week can replace AR reading.
I have decided not to use the Reading Log form that went home last week because it is too
confusing.  In place of that form, students will record their daily reading  in the top section of
each day's HW planner. Please write the title and pages if it is an AR book or KidBiz title and
        score.

Students will also record all of their KidBiz scores on a KidBiz Log and AR points earned on
        the AR log.

  • Language Arts Homework- Students will get some type of LA homework. It will usually be a spelling assignment, Trophies worksheet, writing assignment or  other reading or writing assignment.
  • Math worksheet- Students will bring home a math worksheet to practice the day's lesson or a problem solving or math drill assignment.
  • Other assignments such as Science or Social Studies projects will be assigned, usually with a long term due date.
Class Schedule
PE- Please note that PE is on Tuesdays (except during rotation week.) Please come to school with shoes, shirt and shorts on those days. Don't forget a water bottle, too!

Library- Our library days are on Wednesday (except for rotation week). Please bring your books back to school by Wednesday every week. Books may be re-borrowed  if you are not done reading it. Students will be borrowing 2 AR books and one other book of their choice.
